Lipstick for Dancers
What type of Lipstick should dancers wear?
At the end of the day the type of lipstick dancers choose to use should be based on their own personal needs and preferences.
Here are some factors dancers might consider when choosing a lipstick:
- Lipstick finish
- Occasion of wear
- Wear length
- Color
- Formula
- Season
- Mood
Most dancers will opt for a matte, long wear lipstick that lasts a long time whether for performances, auditions, or just everyday class wear.
You will also what to make sure your lipstick is transfer-proof to avoid getting it on your dance clothing or costumes.
What color lipstick should dancers wear?
Dancers can wear almost any color of lipstick for performances and everyday use.
Most dancers will opt for a red shade that complements their undertones. There are lots of different reds to choose from. There are reds that are closer to pink shades, more orange reds, and deeper more brick reds.
However, if you are playing a character or going for a specific look you might want to choose a different color or shade. Always check your performance requirements before choosing a lipstick color.

The Best Lipsticks for Dancers
Now I’m going to share some of my favorite lipsticks and some other top rated lipsticks that are perfect for dancers. In this section of the post you are going to find the best liquid lipsticks for dancers, the best lip liners and lip pencils for dancers, the best lip products for dancers, and the best lip stains for dancers.
The Best Liquid Lipsticks for Dancers
The number one lipstick type that I recommend for dancers if you want long wear, transfer proof lip color for dance performances is liquid lipstick.
Liquid lipstick is super easy to apply, it doesn’t always require lip liner, and it typically only takes one easy application.
Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick
This has to be my #1 lipstick recommendation for dance performances and lipstick for dancers. It lasts so long sometimes I can’t get it off until I brush my teeth! I also know so many other dancers that swear by this lipstick which means you can 100% trust this lipstick for all of your dance performance needs.
They also have a great range of reds for you to try in addition to other lipstick colors perfect for any dancer.
This one can be a little drying so ititss definitely better for performance wear rather than everyday use.
Here are some of my personal favorite shades from this product:
- Dancer
- Pioneer
- Shot Caller
- Innovator
- Exhilarator
- Ruler
Maybelline Super Stay Vinyl Ink
This is the shiny companion to the matte ink version of this Maybelline lipstick. If you want a shiny, glossy finish to your dance lip color without having to worry about it transferring then this is one of our top picks.
Here are some great red shades for dancers from this lipstick
- Royal
- Wicked
- Coy
- Red Hot
Fenty Beauty Lip Paint
This one never misses the mark for a makeup product. One of the great features of this liquid lipstick is how surprisingly hydrating is feels despite being a matte lipstick.
However this one doesn’t have a huge shade range. If you are looking for a good red try unattached or uncensored.
Revlon Colorstay Overtime Liquid Lipstick
This is another one I’ve used in the past and happen to love. If you like to have a gloss on top of your lipstick this one is perfect. These lipsticks are also more shimmery than some of the others on this list in case that is something you like.
I’ve also used some of the other shades from this one on an everyday basis and happen to love how long-wear and more natural it looks.

Best Lip Liners and Lip Pencils for Dancers
When looking for long-wear lip color, lip liners and lip pencils can also come in handy when used as lipstick for dancers.
You can use lip liners on their own to fill in your lip color or use them as a base for your regular tube or liquid lipstick.
Lip liners are also great for an every day dance class look or color in dance auditions.
Maybelline Superstay Ink Crayon
Once again Maybelline Superstay takes the cake when it comes to the best transfer-proof lipstick for dancers. While the lip crayon is not as long lasting as the vinyl ink or matte ink versions of this long wear lipstick, it still beats so many other lip crayons and lip pencils that I’ve tried before.
This lipstick also has some great natural colors if you don’t necessarily want to look like you’ve got lipstick on during a dance class or audition.
NYX Line Loud Lip Liner
Another great affordable, long wear lip liner for dancers is this NYX Line Loud Lip Liner. Some reviews say that this lip liner stays the longest out of any lip liner product they’ve tried!
This product comes in a variety of colors (34 to be exact) and will pair well with any other NYX lip product you might choose to use for your next dance performance.
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner
I know so many dancers that swear by this viral lip liner. It has a creamy finish that hydrates your lips without being overly drying and also has a lot of skin care benefits included in this formula.
Of course this one also last beautifully for hours without you having to touch it up or worry about too much transfer on your dance costumes!
Best Lip Stains and other Lip Color Products For Dancers
Finally, it’s time for some of the best lip stains and other lip products that are perfect for dancers. This will include lip color and lip products that are best for every day use like in dance classes and auditions.
There are so many great lip color products that will give you an extra pop of color year round on and dance occasion.
Peripera Ink the Velvet Lip Tint
With over 30,000 reviews on Amazon and an impressive shade range there is no doubting that this product is incredible for any dancers. And what’s even better is that you only need one swipe to get the job done!
Colourpop Fresh Kiss Glossy Lip Stain
This is one of my personal favorite lip stains! It is the perfect amount of color and subtlety for everyday wear. You can even add some lip gloss or lip oil on top for a more elegant look in dance class if you want.
Kosas Wet Lip Oil
This is another one of my recent favorites. This is one of the best lip oil colors that I have ever used it helps your lips shine and adds a perfect amount of color to your lips for all of your lip color needs in dance class or dance auditions.
Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Lipstick
Finally, I swear by this product. It has helped both heal my chronically chapped lips while also giving me some extra color in my daily dance classes. It also comes in some great colors to go with your skin tone or dance class outfits.
