As a dancer who’s navigated my fair share of skin concerns, I know how crucial a good routine is. But where do you even start? This guide breaks down the simple, effective daily skincare routine every dancer needs to keep irritation and breakouts at bay.

Easy Everyday Skincare Routine For Dancers
This skincare routine for dancers is super simple and perfect for dancers of all ages whether you are a skincare guru or just starting out.

Step 1- Gentle Cleansing (Morning & Night)

Cleansing should be one of the first steps in and dancer’s skincare routine. Cleansing your skin with a gentle, fragrance free facial wash will help get rid of any dirt or oil on your face from the day or the night before.
You might be wondering why you should cleanse your skin if you’re just going to get sweaty and gross again. However, when we sweat all of the oil and bacteria that is already on our skin is spread around which can cause acne and other issues.

Choose a cleanser that is right for your skin. Most face washes will be labeled with the skin type they are created for. Look for cleansers designed for sensitive or normal skin, as these are often gentler. If you have specific concerns like very oily or dry skin, you can always look for products tailored to those needs.
Since most dancers sweat a lot or wear heavy makeup that already might irritate the skin I recommend finding products that are made for sensitive skin or are hypoallergenic.
Cera Ve is my go to for finding affordable and effective skin care products for my dancer skin needs. I personally use the Foaming Facial Cleanser for Normal to Oily Skin on a daily basis for my own dance skincare needs.
Step 2- Hydration is Key: Moisturizer (Morning & Night)

Moisturizing might feel unnecessary, especially if you have oily skin or you’re sweating all day in class, but trust me, your skin needs it. Hydration helps balance your skin and protect its natural barrier, which keeps irritation and breakouts at bay.
Look for a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer. That just means it won’t clog your pores (which is super important for dancers who are constantly sweating or wearing performance makeup). Even dry skin doesn’t need a heavy cream—something simple and soothing will do the job without making your face feel greasy.
My favorite facial moisturizer is from Cera-Ve and is both an SPF and a moisturizer in one. A little goes a long way with this moisturizer. I swear one small bottle lasts me almost three months of daily use. The best part is it is oil-free!
A good moisturizer will help your skin stay smooth, soft, and less reactive, whether you’re mid-tech rehearsal or crashing after a long day of classes.
Step 3- Sun Protection (Morning)

Sunscreen isn’t just for beach days, it’s a must for every day. Even if you’re inside most of the day, UV rays can still reach your skin through windows, and over time that can lead to skin damage, dark spots, and early signs of aging.
Go for a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, and make sure it says “non-greasy” or “lightweight” so it plays nice with your sweat and any makeup you wear. Bonus points if it’s made for sensitive skin!
Applying sunscreen in the morning is a small habit that makes a big difference for healthy, happy skin.
Step 4 – Simple Makeup Practices (If Applicable)

If you wear makeup to class, rehearsal, or performances, your products and habits can either support or sabotage your skin. The biggest tip? Use non-comedogenic makeup, meaning it won’t block your pores.
Some good makeup brands that have good products marketed as non-comedogenic include:
- Clinique
- Bareminerals
- IT Cosmetics
- Rare Beauty
- ELF
- Saie
- Almay
At the end of the day (or right after rehearsal), make sure to fully remove your makeup, even if you’re exhausted. Micellar water or a gentle makeup remover followed by your regular cleanser will help keep breakouts and irritation away.
Keeping your makeup simple when you’re not on stage and letting your skin breathe when you can is always a good move.
Quick Tips for Dancer Skincare Throughout the Day
Your skincare journey doesn’t stop after your morning routine! Here are some easy skincare habits for dancers on the go to keep your skin happy and healthy throughout a long day of dancing.
Blot sweat with a clean towel.
We’ve all been guilty of relying on a questionably clean t-shirt or towel to stop dripping sweat during long rehearsals. However, using a clean paper towel or cooling towel is way better for your skin in the long run.
Pack a clean towel that you keep in a safe place and clean after long dance classes or even a roll of paper towels if it is more convenient in your dance bag to blot sweat and keep your skin clean.
Avoid touching your face unnecessarily
As much as we try not to think about it, dance floors and studios can get a little gross. With lots of people touching them everyday we definitely don’t want to get all of those germs on our faces.
Try to avoid touching your hair or face unnecessarily to keep bacteria off your face and avoid breakouts.
Wash your hands frequently
Wash your hands regularly and when you can in the dance studio to reduce the amount of bacteria that gets to your face.
I recommend packing some hand wipes or hand sanitizer in your dance bag to make this easier and more convenient.
Stay hydrated by drinking water
Water is essential for dancers but did you also know it is essential for your skin? Keep your skin hydrated by drinking lots of water before, during, and after sessions at the dance studio.
Listening to Your Skin
As you go through your everyday life as a dancer be sure to pay attention to your skin and adjust your skincare routine accordingly.
